May has returned!
In response to people who think we have too many human issues to deal with, and therefore keep animals on the “back burner”, please read How can you care about ANIMALS after 9/11? Better yet, please go to the linked site, when you have 41 minutes to spare, and listen to the whole keynote address. It is truly excellent and informative, whether you’re an animal rights person or not.
The “either/or” attitude that effectually limits our ability as a Church to demonstrate any compassion and action beyond our own kind, puts a different spin on the quote:
“Cruelty must be whitewashed by a moral excuse, and a pretense of reluctance.”
– unknown origin
That attitude is more than a personal one. It could hold the rest of us hostage, and paralyzed, which isn’t fair to anyone who has a “both/and” attitude.
