Taking a look at what others are searching for
It is interesting for me to see how people happen upon this site. One person did a Google.com search for “vegan Christians”. I looked at just the first page of what came up on that search, and thought some of these might be interesting for some of you:
Three Hierarchs Greek Orthodox Church has an article about fasting, along with recipes on the left side of the screen. You may want to bookmark this site, and refer to it for Lent next year.
Most Episcopalians probably don’t think about dietary choices from a Christian perspective at all, except maybe during Lent. And that is why I applaud the efforts of Veg4Lent, because even for Lent there is still resistance from the churches, not to want to mention, let alone promote the idea of extending any mercy toward animals during this brief penitential season, to reduce the covetous demand for the flesh of the 26,000,000+ animals slaughtered each day in the U.S. alone. Lent is an excellent time to observe a moratorium on cruelty and death, without conflicting in any way with any other spiritual practices. I guess the point I’m trying to make is, the Orthodox observance of a vegan Lenten fast may be spiritually oriented, but it is also “accidently kind”. This is a credible, historic observance that has been lost to a majority of western Christian denominations. I would like to see it become a more universally accepted practice. And even the fact that the Orthodox Lenten fast is done for spiritual reasons (so important that this church’s website includes an extensive list of vegan recipes) ought to tell us something, too….
I’ll take whatever I can find on the topic, although, I wish active compassion for the suffering of innocent victims would also fall under the umbrella of what is considered a “spiritual” practice by Christians in general. (Wishful thinking, I guess….)
Orthodox Christians in the work place discusses the difficulty of dietary observances in a diverse environment, along with other Orthodox concerns.
To Your Health discusses Daniel, and also has health information and recipes along the left side of the screen. This is a Seventh Day Adventist site.
