I didn't want to put this on the same page, but since my stats have indicated that people occasionally come to this page looking for vegan alternatives to HPI, I feel compelled to include a link to other humanitarian organizations. Although Heifer Project (and Episcopal Relief and Development, for that matter) has various non-animal projects that individuals or groups can designate for their donations (which I hope enlightened church congregations will do) here are a few alternatives that I found -- humanitarian relief & development organizations that don't use animals.
